Welcome to this weeks guide. Its conferring week so congrats to all of you who will be in Aras na Mac Leinn getting conferred. The Bailey Allen hall is looking lovely so enjoy your day and for those of you finished in NUI Galway best of luck for the future.
For those of you who regularly meet in Áras na Mac Leinn note venues for a lot of meetings and classes have changed to accommodate the conferring so please check your regular weekly meeting slots for this week. I mentioned music week last week, pencil it into your diary it runs from November 16th - 19th and the societies have some great events lined up all shall be revealed soon.
The mystery is now over for those of you who went on Biz Soc's mystery tour but do keep an eye out for all the great society trips and events which are planned to beat those recession blues. By the way, speaking of beating the recession why not come along to hear Deputy George Lee speak on Monday night. In fact have a good read of the guide below as there is so much to choose from - films, guest speakers, classes, learning to sew, games and opportunities for fun.

Ever wanted to work with disadvantaged young people in Italy, people with disabilities in Poland, an Environmental project in Germany, a youth club in Norway? Now you can!
The European Volunteer Service (EVS) is a EU Commission project aimed at encouraging European young people to volunteer in Europe from 2 weeks up to 1 year. It is free for volunteers to participate, accommodation and travel are also free and volunteers receive a small stipend to support them.

The Cast and Committe of THE WIZ will be having a bowling night out after dancing rehearsals on Monday. It's going to be E5 per person (Bring your student ID!) Really want to see as many people as possible coming; this is a great chance for us all to get to know our fantastic new cast! There's refreshments there as well. A very worthwhile and thought-provoking series of seminars covering topics such as Development, Human Rights Activism, Child Labour and Asylum Seeking on every Tuesday from 6-8pm for 6 weeks. No previous knowledge necessary! Meet experts in the field for an informative and interactive discussion with open-minded people. At the end of the course you will be issued a certificate endorsed by Irish Aid. The 6 week course is just €20. Sign up at www.suas.ie or turn up on the night.
Every week we have some of the best jugglers around giving workshops in their chosen area of expertise, so come along if you want to learn how to swing Poi, twirl Staffs, juggle Clubs and Balls, spin Diablos, roll Contact Balls, flip Hats and do .... well cool stuff with Devil Sticks! I think you get the idea! People of ALL skill levels welcome from complete beginner to advanced. If you don't want to participate in the workshop come along anyway to use our equipment and as always feel free to ask anyone you want to teach you anything you want!!

Tuesday night in Lit&Deb is Workshop Night, where over the course of 20-odd weeks fresh-faced novice debaters are transformed into machines of logic and rhetoric. Workshop 4 is a continuation of the basic basics, concentrating on burdens of proof, model construction, 15-minutes prep etc. Followed by a practice debate.
And as usual, Galway night-life will follow...

Life Society will hold its first general meeting in the McMunn Theatre (Concourse) at 6:30 on Wednesday, 21 October. Eilis Mulroy will give a talk entitled 'Right to Life: A Human Right?' and explain the current situation in Galway on life issues. The current pressing matters of embryonic stem cell research and euthanasia will be addressed. After a short film, pizza will be served so that new members can meet and discuss the issues and plan activites for the year as a society. The event will be open to the public and student non-members.

The Literary and Debating Society is delighted to host a panel of distinguished poets to discuss the topic of "Peripheral Vision: Poetry and writing in the West of Ireland”. This panel discussion will explore how life in modern Ireland constrains and influences the writing that is defining a generation both at home and abroad, through a series of questions put forward by an interviewer alternated with readings of the authors' own work. Confirmed panellists include Terry McDonagh, Susan Millar DuMars, and Kevin Higgins.
