Cosmetic surgery gives people a chance to change how the look, how they feel about themselves and arguably their standard of living. As medical science advances, more and more complex procedures become possible and affordable to the many. The question though is whether cosmetic surgery is always a positive thing.
After all, the risks associated with any surgery need to be considered, and are often glossed over by doctors eager to make money off people. The types of people who generally choose cosmetic surgery have low self-esteem and are frequently easy targets for advertisers â why should the government allow them to be exploited in this manner? Doesnât the duty of care that the government have over you supersede your right to make bad decisions?
However, the removal of free choice should never bee taken lightly. In a world where nothing is constant and everything has a price, why should someoneâs physical appearance by excluded from this? Whoâs to say that the government is in a better position to take a decision about your future than you are?

We will be spending an action-packed weekend Friday to Sunday in Donegal and touring the beautiful city of Derry. It will take place over the weekend of the 19th to the 21st of February. It is only âŹ30 per person and it promises to be a culturally stimulating, life-changing and hilarious experience.
Over the course of this weekend, we will be meeting speakers associated with the troubles of Northern Ireland, including the Noble Peace Prize Winner, John Hume. We will be going on a Walled City Heritage Trail. This is a multi-layered experience that takes in all periods of its tumultuous history and its vibrant present. The troubled history of Derry provides rich raw material for artistic discovery. It was famously under siege in the 17th century and three centuries later it was the site of Bloody Sunday â the flashpoint that started more than thirty years of sectarian trouble in the province. The city is beautifully dramatic - built in 546 AD on a hill which was originally an island in the river Foyle. It is the only completely walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples of its type in Europe. The modern city preserves the 17th century layout with four main streets radiating from the Diamond to four gates â Bishop's Gate, Ferrygate, Shipquay Gate and Butcher's Gate.
It is believed that Derry City has the best nightlife in Ireland. We have not finalised where we will be going at night but wherever it is, it will be epic!
We will be residing at the beautifully restored Inch House Irish Studies Centre. Built in the late 1600s for a local landlord, Inch House is now Ireland's first dedicated Irish Studies Centre for visiting college and university students and staff. Located at Inch, Lough Swilly, Co. Donegal and nestling in its four acres of gardens and woodlands, Inch House Irish Studies Centre offers a year-round programme design, management and accommodation service. Bed and breakfast is included in the price. The only extra cost is feeding yourself during the day.
All this for âŹ30...sure you'd be mad not to go!!!
Transport:
19th February - Bus collection at NUIG for 30 people with transfer to Donegal (Depart 11am, arrive 3.30pm)
21st February â Departure for Galway 1pm, arrival Galway 5.30pm
Tickets on sale at Socs Box, Aras na mac Leinn.
