The Italian Society helps unite Italian and Irish students. It celebrates everything Italian. We welcome Italian students to Galway and encourage them to practice their English with Irish students while we encourage Irish students studying Italian to practice the language with real Italians. We have events which celebrate Italian culture such as an Italian film series and a 'bring a dish night' and also, we have events that mix both Irish and Italian culture together such as our Irish/Italian quiz. Our biggest event is our annual Carnevale Masquerade Ball which celebrates the festival of Carnevale in Venice. Every year the ball is for a different charity. This year 2500 was raised for Ability West.
So, the time is finally here! You can finally book your tickets for our Carnevale Masquerade Ball 2010, our biggest event of the year. We're collecting €20 deposits now (€45 in total) at the Socs Box until Friday 22nd January.
Carnevale is a week long celebration in Venice and is one of the most awesome events you can possibly witness in Italy. This Carnevale Masquerade Ball is a celebration of this festival that the Italian people cherish so dearly! To take part in this ball is to also take part in and celebrate Italian culture at its best.
You cannot possibly miss out on one of the most special balls you can attend this year. You can bring whomever you wish as anyone can attend, not only NUIG students. For the fantastic price of €45 you will be getting a three course meal, free wine at our special wine reception and much entertainment including our terrific cover band F.Y.C. and our fabulous Fifties DJ Kit, as well as some lovely surprises. And what's more all the proceeds go to the magnificent charity that is Ability West who work with people with mental disabilities to fulfil their true potential.
The Ball takes place on Friday the 12th of February from 6 p.m. in the Galway Bay Hotel. Carnevale runs from the 6th to the 16th of February this year so this is why the date of our Ball has special significance. So, because we all can't pop over to Venice to enjoy the festivities, what better way to celebrate the festival than with your very own Italian Society! Also, with the Ball being so close to Valentine's Day, a ticket to this Ball would make the ultimate Valentine's Day present!
