Cumann De Barra is NUI Galway's branch of Ogra Fianna Fail. Ogra Fianna Fail are the youth wing of the national party Fianna Fail. We organise events in conjunction with the national Ogra units. We promote the party's interests on campus and in Galway West. We attend conferences, ard fheiseanna and other politically related events. We present guest speakers to the students and provide a forum for which students can address their public representatives. In addition to this we have monthly social outings and events. If you have an interest in joining a society on campus or indeed joining Ogra Fianna Fail in your local area, come along to one of our meetings or contact us via email or phone.
NUIG Cumann de Barra's Road Safety Initiative takes place on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd February to raise awareness on campus of road safety issues.
As part of the Road Safety Initiative they will hold a “skool” themed disco on Monday 21st of February in the college bar in aid of the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire. There will be a raffle draw on the night with a top prize of €250 and loads more! Spot prize for the best dressed schoolboy/schoolgirl/headmaster etc! Also on Monday Mass will be held to commemorate victims of road accidents in N.U.I.G. and a wreath will be placed at the memorial garden afterwards.
On Tuesday Galway fire brigade will perform a rescue demonstration in the Aras na Mac Leinn/college bar area at 12pm. There will be in formation points on campus in the library and the foyer of the Aras na Mac Leinn on the day. There will also be a bucket collection for anyone wishing to contribute the collection for the National Rehabilitation Hospital, an extremely worthy cause.
Meetings are usually held on campus every Monday night at 8pm in AC 202 (on the concourse). All these meetings are open to the public. Each meeting has a guest speaker from the Fianna Fail party including Councillors, TD's, Senators and many more. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings.
