Hey All,
We are the Anime & Manga Society!
As a society we provide a forum for Anime, Manga,Foreign Film, Cosplay and Japanese Culture. We have anime screenings every tuesday and thursday and will have other events running throughout the year.
We hope to see you during the upcoming year!
-The Anime and Manga Committee
Where to begin? The Anime and Manga Society started out as a small society with big ideas and not enough of a budget to fulfill all of them. The passing weeks have been amazing for the soicieties profile, not just on campus, but also within the city itself. From the election of the our wonderful, dedicated committee to our packed out screening of Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. The passing weeks have been amazing.
The day after the society had received official status, the Japanese embassy was interested in collabarating with society and the Wa Cafe, to entertainment the Japanese Ambassador and the visitors to the city for the Japanese Film Festival 2009. At first we were a bit nervous of meeting/entertaining the ambassador. This feeling grew once we were told that we had to dance for the ambassador before meeting him. So, for 3 days the Anime & Manga Society practiced the pop dance "Soran ParaPara" with the girls from the Wa Cafe. We practiced and practiced until we were confident that we had it right.
Thursday, 29th. The Anime and Manga society performed the dance in front of the Ambassador, 1st secretary of the Ambassador, Mayor of Galway and a large crowd. The Ambassador was very pleased with the performance and the society conversed with him afterwards. The Society has gained ties with the embassy and will be doing event in conjuction with them as well as the Wa CAfe over the course of the year.
The Film Festival was amazing and very well organised.Eoghan (Treasurer) won the Film Festivals Cosplay competition in the Town Hall Theatre. The Saturday night of the Film Festival finished with a Cosplay party. Where the society had another chance to perform their dance in front of a packed bar.
Overall, the past few weeks have been very successful for the society. The society has made some good friends amongst the Japanese Embassy and the Wa Cafe, gained a regular following at weekly meetings and has a strong dedicated committee. The society will be hosting more successful events of the year and we want anyone that is interested to send us their idea's and we will do our best to organise them.
Remember our weekly meeting is held in the Large Acoustic room, 8PM on Tuesday. Hope to see all of you there!!
