The Birds and the BaCon:
BaCon stands for B.A. Connect society. In the dwindling days of Semester two 2009, a handful of BAConnect students stought to unite the different creative disciplines in the Connect course with a society and see where they could go from there. All the necessary hoops were jumped through; forms filled, signatures signed, case pled to the powers that be. And from there, lo and behold, there was BaCon soc. However it occurred to these brave few that to form a society that only included a certain few was to exclude everyone else. That would just not do. A little re-jigging here, a nice touch up there, and the society that you know and love was born. As they say, from tiny seeds mighty oaks grow. We're not sure at what stage of growth we are, but BaCon has grown and adapted in a short time to form a tightly-knit dynamic society that has big plans to entertain, inform, enthuse and amuse the students of NUIG in as funny and creative a way as we are allowed. And seeing as "connect" is in our name, it seemed only logical to team up with any other society that might be interested in what we'll be doing.
Us:
Here at BACon Soc we're all about creativity and connection. If you have an idea we want to hear about it no matter how inherently ridiculous, delicious or salubrious it may be. As long as its legal and doesnt infringe on any human rights, we're gonna do our best to follow through on what YOU guys want to do. (Couldnt resist the rhyme) We're like all-rounders, but not those sort-of-mostly-okay-at-a-few-things all rounders, Awesome-at-everything-and-really-modest-too all rounders.
We want BACon Soc to be your society. We want our members to have free rein to come up with ideas and pitch them to us so that we can tell everyone about them and see what kind of reaction we get. If its mostly positive, you bet it's gonna happen.
Think of us as facilitators for your every event needs.
Our aim is to bring people together in a fun way to do fun stuff for fun.
"I say it loud; I'm BACon and proud!"- Anon.
DISCLAIMER:
BaCon Soc is NOT, nor will it (presumably) ever be about (presumably) delicious pork products.
If you blinked, you probably ,missed it. The new BACon Soc (BA Connect Society) caused a quick hit stir with their inaugaural event; a handful of face-painted robots doing the robot, to robot rock. Appearing virtually out of nowhere, the co-founders of the society aided by their fellow members decided to start out the way they meant to continue, and made some noise. Not to mention a spectacle of themselves.
Sitting innocuously enough on the benches behind a the strands of smoke in the bialann courtyard, they promptly jumped to their feet when they heard their que, daft punks 'robot rock' blaring from a comandeered boom-box.Leg-jiggling, hip-wiggling, and arm-jerking ensued, entertaining a substantial, if bewildered, audience both above and below. When the music stopped and the applause died down, the BAConeers proceeded to give a welcome explanation for their eejitry; they're are here to make and see things happen, but to see what YOU want happening.
You may have missed the ridiculous two minutes, but all you have to do is keep an eye out, and an ear to the ground. Even though they were gone nearly as fast as they came, the talk remains, so ask around for the story and you wont be asking long. Dont worry if you missed it. The whole of BACon promises, there will be more. This is only the beginning...
Thursday's at 6 in the large acoustic room is a good guideline but if you see a fellow BAConeer, head on over and give 'em the secret handshake. (we'll make one up at the next meeting)
You can join this society by logging in here.
