Commonly known as the horse chesnut, this particular brown nut shaped object has been synomonous with a deadly game of skill and cunning known as CONKERS! The rules of engagement are simple, find a conker that has a good hardness/size ratio, string it up then proceed to destroy your enemy.
Overall quite a stressful affair, but a pleasing one none the less! The NSS convened upon the fantastic new Art Room in Aras na MacLeinn with the usual amount of tea and silliness that has come to be expected of them. The evening saw money being raised for A.W.A.R.E. by way of encouraging all participants to donate a small sum to enter.
The games themselves ranged from displays of outright terror to more comical drawn out affairs featuring people who'd never strung s conker up in their lifes! But it came down to sheer muscle memory as the schoolyard kings and queens were soon crowned and awarded Nutella! (one jar of which could sustain a hardy man for 16 months).
Also making an appearance were marbles, the sophisticated primary school classic. A game of class indeed, it certainly was a soothing experience that took place amid piles of smashed conkers and bits of string.
All in all, bruised knuckles, broken conkers but fun times!
The NSS would like to thank all our plucky contestants and anyone who donated on the day.
G'luck!
