Rizzle Kicks headline BizSoc Commerce Ball
After a painful year-long wait, it’s finally here! BizSoc’s Commerce Ball is back, bigger and better than ever before. 1,200 NUIG students are set to suit/dress up in their finest for this year’s ball which takes place on Wednesday 25 January in the Radisson Blu Hotel. The night kicks the university’s ball season into full swing and is set to be one of the most talked about events of the university year.
However, it’s the ball’s headliners which are provoking the most excitement around the college. In a major coup for the society, and the college as a whole, BizSoc have secured the services of chart-toppers ‘Rizzle Kicks’ as it’s headlining act this year. The British hip-hop duo are one of today’s most exciting musical prospects with one number 1, four top ten hits, and are currently number 3 in the UK charts with Mama do the Hump!
But Rizzle Kicks aren’t the only draw on the night. The event itself kicks off with a champagne reception in the Radisson at 6pm. Guests attending the full event will be wined and dined with an exceptional 3 course meal, with entertainment provided by crooner Keith McDonald. There’ll be spot prizes; awards, including best dressed male and female; as well as a few other surprises thrown into the mix! This will be supplemented by the afters pre-party in the Townhouse Bar, in the Spanish Arch from 7-10pm.
At 10pm, with the formalities over, the ball will explode into life! The afters commence and the night will well and truly get under way. Galway-based drum and bassline act ‘Rhythm Scheme’ will initiate proceedings, followed by 90s tribute act ‘Smash Hits’. Cheesy songs, catchy choruses and plenty of nostalgia are sure to follow. Then, of course, comes the little matter of the nights showcase act, ‘Rizzle Kicks’.
But what would a Commerce Ball or any NUIG ball for that matter, be without a closing set from NUIG’s much-loved, resident DJ? In true NUIG fashion, DJ Byrno will close the night with another show-stopping, fist-pumping, roof-raising spectacle of music.
And of course the event is all in aid of charity, with this year’s proceeds going towards Pieta House. Pieta House is a non-profit organisation which provides specialised treatment free of charge for people who have suicidal thoughts.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday 17th of January at 12am in Aras Na MacLéinn. As usual full tickets cost €60, and afters cost €30. Tickets notoriously sell out quickly, so arrive early to avoid disappointment!
